1992 Ford Tempo Front Wheel Drive Automatic 000079 miles

lets see where to start our car seems to not want to shift to the other gear it reves high an somtimes itll shift over but it gets really high befor that. We did however forget to put oil in the cae so I dont know if that could of broke somthing inside somwhere. We also changd the starter on the car, would that possible have somthing to do with it.I dont know who else to turn too. Im thinking it could be bad transmission. Hope to hear from u soon

Tempos/topaz are notorious for leaking trans fluid!Usually the radiator cooling lines are the culprit! If the transmission fluid level is full now then you definately have a trans problem. You must check when engine is running otherwise it will give false reading. Also check both sides of dipstick and lowest wet line is the real reading. Hard to check after just filling as oil is coating inside of fill tube and easily gets all over stick. Check several times to verify. TOO MUCH fluid can cause problems also! You can also try manually shifting car 1-2-3 and see how it acts. Also the throttle linkage/butterfly has rod assembly that actuates the kickdown(downshift lever)below it and if this arm falls off you will experience trans shift problems. Good luck!
