My engine seems to severely cut-out on hard acceleration. It does not do it on soft gradual acceleration only if RPMs are over 2500 to 3,000. I am currently unemployed and need to fix this a cheaply as possible.

Hello,

It sounds like the engine might be misfiring under load (acceleration).
This typically happens due to weak spark plugs.

Inspect the spark plugs. Check the gap of the plug. It should be .042-.045 in. Adjust if necessary.
Also look for carbon build op or oil in the plug.

Spark plugs can be replaced easily with using simple hand tools.
Here are couple of helpful articles:

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
