My car is making a clicking noise mainly when going over bumps in the left side wheel changed the axle did not work they told me that the strut mount is broken does this sound right

Are they refering to the tower or the strut plate that bolts to it? I ask because if it is the tower, it is dangerous to drive. Strut plates (bearing) that bolts to the tower can go bad and will make the noise you described. The part isn't too expensive and is available aftermarket.

Let me know what they are telling you and the price so I can better direct you.

I think they said the strut plate and told me I should replace the struts while I'm at it they said about $500
But I don't think the struts are bad is it hard to replace the mount myself

If the struts are good, keep them and only replace the plates. As far as replacement, the top strut mounts need removed. It isn't a bad job, but you need to be careful.
