Oil light flashes atlow idle, took car to a ford garage and had oil pressure tested. They said it was showing 8 psi and needed a new oil pump. They said that may not fix problem though if bearings are bad. Is there any way to tell before I spend money and put new oil pump on?

If bearings were bad than you would hear terrible noises coming from engine and also the oil light would most likely be on a lot more often then just at idle. Also may notice some metal shavings in the engine oil if bearings are bad.

If there's no engne knocking noises at lower end of engine such as a thudding/thumping noise at 8-10psi at idle I say its okay-
