1998 Ford Taurus Engine reving

On two recent occassions when I put the car in Park, the engine revved to over 2500 rpms. I was not using the accelerator. Is this dangerous?

2500 RPMs is not so high that it will do anything to the engine. As the problem is it is not dangerous, however it needs to be fixed because whatever is causing the engine to rev could be causing damage, and it may start happening at other times that are dangerous.
