Engine revving up and down and starting issues

I have a 92 Ford Taurus SHO and it has started to rev up and down from time to time at idle and then the check engine light comes on. If I turn it off while it is doing this it doesn't want to start back up and sometimes I will have a strong gas smell. The starter will crank and car wants to start but wont then it starts up and runs fine

Hi this could be bad injectors or fuel pressure regulator

IF YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON---MANY POPULAR AUTO PARTS STORES WILL "CODE" YOUR VEHICLE, USUALLY FOR FREE!

WRITE DOWN THE EXACT CODES (LETTERS AND #s) YOU CAN POST THEM WITH US, AS SOME CODES CAN BE "INTERPRETED" DIFFERENT WAYS.

SOMETIMES THE PART STORES WILL OFFER A SOLUTION TO THE CODES (THE BIG GUY HERE AT AUTOZONE HAS BEEN REAL HELPFUL IN THE PAST FOR ME)

A VACUUM LEAK WILL ALSO CAUSE THE RPMs TO FLUCTUATE
