1996 Ford Taurus stalls and over revving

1996 taurus intermittantly stalls on stopping or at low speed. Also, intermittantly over revving on accelerating from 1st into 2nd. Codes thrown are catallatic converter and O2 sensors. The 2 rear O2 sensors have been replaced but problem continues.
Mechanic thinks "computer" could be the problem but no way to test if "computer" is not working properly. Any suggestions are welcome!

Have you checked to make sure the converter isn't plugging up?

So the converter is pulled and examined? Correct? Is this an expensive job? Can the mechanic tell blockage if the problems are intermittant?

It can be pulled and inspected, or they can actually check back pressure from the O2 sensor ports. THey check pressure before the cat, and at the cat to see if there is a large difference.
