I'm having problems with my car not starting. It will turn over fine but won't start. I usually have to try 3 or more times for it to start. After it starts, it runs fine. Just been having problems getting it going. I took it to a shop today and they changed the fuel filter, but it is still doing the same thing.

A pair of suspects come to mind. Cam position sensor and Throttle position sensor.
Start by having the system checked for codes.

A cam position sensor will give a hard start/no start condition because without the input from that sensor, the computer has to guess whether #1 is on the compression or exhaust stroke. This is a redundancy built into the system to prevent a bad sensor from disabling the car. There is about a 50-50 chance of the computer guessing right and starting the engine.

Suspect #2 is the TP sensor. If this sensor gives a reading that is above closed throttle (idle), it puts the computer in "clear flood" mode. This shuts off the fuel to the injectors.

A third and less likely pair of suspects would be the fuel pump and relay. This is relatively easily checked by checking fuel pressure during the hard start/no start problem.

Hope this helps.
