When the key is turned, there is only a click. Battery is good, charged all night, interior lights, dash lights, radio, windows, seats and door locks all work. Daughter drove it thru a deep puddle, it stopped immediately.

Twice before, she drove it through a spot wet enough to cause a spray to come up, nothing you'd normally slow for. The battery light came on and the power steering locked up. The engine continued to run normally. Stopping and restarting the car returned it to normal. This hasn't happened again.

battery charged over night. The car tried to turn over when we tried to start it this morning. Starter sounds normal.

Pulled the plugs, dried them. Replaced air filter. Drained oil, ran a little clean oil through and let it drip out a while, then changed the oil and oil filter. Car starts easily now but makes a loud banging noise that keeps pace with acceleration - the banging speeds up if you press the accelerator a little. Very loud. What should we do?

Thank you.

That's what I did not want to read. Engine hydro locked water got into cylinders it is not compressable so rods bend that would be the noise. Rebuild or replacement of engine. Sorry must be how a Doc feels telling someone they have a terminal illness.
