My car has excessive white exhaust fumes coming from the muffler. I hear a tapping noise and hear the tapping much louder when I increase the acceleration while in park.

Hello,

One of the most common causes for excessive white smoke coming out of the tail pipe is a blown head gasket. When the head gasket fails it will allow coolant to mix with oil. This will lead to white smoke.

The white smoke can also be due to cracked cylinder head, engine block failure, leaking intake manifold gasket.

Usually when oil and coolant mix the oil color changes to a milky white color. So first check the oil. You also need to check the coolant level.

Here is a helpful guide on how to test for blown head gasket:

Please let me know your findings.
Thank you.
