2002 Ford Ranger Temperature gauge getting hot

I have this ford ranger which the temperature gauge recently has been showing sporatically edging up near the "H" and then staying but not exactly getting up to the "H" on gauge and then it will drop.I recently had a minor accident where I rammed someone in their rear and done some minor damage to front driver side bumper area that is superficial or only cosmetic damage.I was thinking of maybe the thermostat needs to be replaced?

Check the cool ant level and check your radiator possibility that your radiator got damaged and change coolant and thermostat.
