Just push it together for whichever size the fitting you are working on is (tool should have 4 sizes: A (3/4"), B (5/8"), C (1/2") and D (3/8") ). Once you pick the right size you will slide the tool into the fitting and it will release the quick release spring. You have to push the tool in pretty hard sometimes to get it to release.
