Do you have to drain the coolant to change the thermostat?

You do not have to drain the whole system to change thermostat. Take off the pipes going to thermostat housing obviously you will lose coolant. Take off housing . Replace thermostat. Replace housing. Refill system. And bleed system. Let the engine get hot enough for thermostat to open.
