Does the fan and fan clutch have to be removed before attempting a thermostat replacement or can the thermostat be replaced without removing these parts. This is my first attempt to replace this and I am trying not to take any parts off the vehicle that I do not have to take off

What is liter size of engine? I looked at 4.0L, didn't say anything about removing the fan.

The engine is a 4 cylinder 2.3 liter. I looked at some YouTube video and two suggested that the fan guard, fan and fan clutch be removed before attempting to remove the thermostat.
