1990 Ford Ranger 175000miles: My gas gauge reads permanently empty and I don't know where to begin to fix it or if I should even bother. Thanks, James

James:
Chances are the float gauge in the fuel tank is bad. There is a simple rheostat that sends a signal to the body control module, which inturn sends the signal to the gauge. If the rheostat is bad, or the float has sunk, it can do this. The bad part is the part is in the tank and is part of the fuel pump.

Let me know if you have other questions.
Joe
