Engine Performance problem
1988 Ford Mustang V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual

my 5.0 will start but will only run at half throttle. Above that all the sensors go flat and the car acts like it is going to stall. This happened before and a shop replaced a in-line ignition diode located by the shock tower to fix. I now have the same symptoms until a friend of mine hooked the ignition to 12 v bypassing the diode. It ran for a couple of minutes and now won't start. I think I have now burned out the thick film module. The car has MSD box and coil already. My question is if I replace the distributor with a msd can I get around this diode and get this thing back to normal

It is factory and is in the factory wiring diagram. I think it is a power feed to the distributer
