Hello there. I own the Ford IDS software, and a VCM. It normally works great on most vehicles I use it on. However, I was just trying to help a buddy, and decided to check to see if his 2007 F150 needed an update. It did, so I clicked update to latest calibration, and the process started. Well, it got almost to the end of the blue progress bar, and then the system locked up, and the message saying "lost communication to VCM" came up. I tried and tried to reprogram the PCM, and even tried reprogramming it as a new module. The truck cranks, but won't start. What's strange, is that IDS establishes communication with the PCM, but it won't allow it to be reprogrammed. PLEASE HELP!

Hi there,

There is a good chance that you have wiped the MEMCAL and the update like has failed, I think that you may have to take out the ECU and get it re programed or replaced.

Well, I was told that I could go about reprogramming the PCM that is in the truck, without having to buy a new one. By going about blank path programming, or "as-built". How do I do this using my IDS system? I need the "as built" data for a 2007 F150 4x4.

I am not that familiar with that system, I will see what I can find out, I would expect that the programmer would have a help menu, is there nothing in the software package that steps you through this method?

No, unfortunately IDS does not have much of a users guide, or manual. Is there anyone on here who knows about IDS?
