2001 Ford F150 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

For the past 3, months I have ( more so my wife) had to deal with the truck not starting. It will crank over but not start, only sometimes. Today my wife tried to start it to go to work, would not go. I arrived home 2 houres later and it started no problem. I have changed the fuel filter, and the relay. I am hoping it is not the fuel pump ( $578. Plus tax) any other ideas on what it might be? Sometimes it starts right away sometimes not. On Saturday I did the relay on Sunday it rained all day the truck sat but I checked it and it started fine. Today (Monday) it didn't start for her. When I got home today it started after 5 tries. Please help we love this little flairside

Dont automatcily think its fuel related, it could be due to an old battery or starter, id start with the cheapest, take it to like an auto zone or one of those places they will check the battery and the starter if both are ok sounds like your going to need a fuel pump but the thing is most of the time when a fuel pump goes, it just goes, it doesnt die slowly.

The truck turns over fine, and it will keep turning over with no problem, It seems like there is no fuel to the rail or no spark. I thought the fuel pump would would die suddenly, not act up on and off-ish. What else could I check?

I said the fuel pump WOULD die suddenly and not on and off, well go to the fuel rail and you can either compression test it make sure your getting enough pressure, or just disconnect the fuel line going into the fuel rail try to start it if you have fuel then the pump is working, if you dont then the pump isnt pumping fuel, if you do have fuel then well go from there. Let me know

Here we go again, This morning it started, but not in park. Had to put it into neutral to start it. When she tried to go out for lunch it would not start no matter what she tried. Tonight I stopped at her work on the way home and it started in park first try. Could it be a relay hidden someplace that only a midget could find. Thanks for all the help

No and that's part of the problem. I pray every time I go out there that it will give a code but it won't. I had an automatic car starter installed 2 years ago that never really worked right. When the problem's started I un-pluged all of the wires from the module. I was thinking I would chase all of the wires and phically disconect them. In doing that I might be able to find a loose connection. Any other thoughts? And thatnks again you seem to be the only one replying to my posts.
