I just purchased a 1988 F150 and am tuning it up and there is a very small rectangular filter underneath the air filter in the intake manifold. It connects to a hose running back near the oil filler hole. I have checked my alldata manual, my haynes and can not find mention of this. A universal car manual I have indicates that it is the pcv air filter. It is very dirty and I want to replace it but can't find this part listed online and ford's parts catalog just keeps giving me pcv valves. Is this filter the pcv and if so how do I find this part - is there another name it might be listed under or has it been replaced with something else? Also, the filter shows signs of oil, does this indicate the pcv valve might need replaced? I can provide a picture if needed. Thank you!

If you can, send me a picture so I know we're both on the same page. I think I know what you have. If I'm correct, they didn't use this system for very long.

I've attached a picture of what I have, I figured out that the little filter is called a crankshaft breather filter. But I am still stuck on where my pcv valve is if I have one. The hose that connects to the intake back to the oil filler cap does not seem to have any valves in it. I took it off on both ends and it seems to just attach to fittings on each end. I've attached pictures of that as well. Thank you.

With this system you won't have a pvc valve persay. The hose from the oil filler cap vents to the air cleaner housing. They didn't use this for very long 'cause the oil vapor clogged the air filter too quickly when the engine started to get a few miles on it.
