2002 Ford Explorer. 95K miles. There is a vibration from the front end when reversing and turning after it has sat for 3+ hours. Took it to Ford and they could find nothing wrong. They replaced the transmission fluid and steering fluid. No other problems were found. But, the Explorer still makes the noise. Any ideas?

What kind of noise? Whining, creaking groan, bang, tap? Only while turning? Does it feel like a chatter?

The sound from my explorer is a klunk, klunk, klunk. But, I only hear the sound after the explorer has been sitting for a few hours.

Something new this morning: When sitting with my foot on the brake at a red light, it felt like my explorer shifted just once about 5 seconds after coming to a complete stop.

Check the inboard cv joint, called the plunger joint, they can klunk if too worn. The shift feel can be due to solinoid for the torque converter, I wouldn't panic yet until the tranny starts to "hunt" while idling, or your check engine light comes on. Has the tranny had a fluid and filter change yet?
