My Explorer stopped on me a few months ago, I thought it was out of gas. When I put some in -- it started and then had no problems. However, today when this happened and I tried the same thing, it didn't work. It doesn't "turn over" to start. It felt like it was going to run out of gas when I was driving it. I initially put some gas in it and it started then while on the highway, it just stopped dead and I coasted off the freeway. Put some more gas in but it still didn't start.

So it does not crank? Any noise like a click or just dead? Any lights on the dash work when you turn it to ON position?

First, I should say it's a 5.0 L V-8 but in answer to your question the motor turns but it never starts. Lights all come on as normal. In other words, no lights to warn of something out of whack.

OK watch the security light on the dash, it should flash once every 3 seconds, then when you turn the key to on it will go on steady for 3 seconds then go out, let me know if this is how yours is operating.
