Engine Performance problem
1998 Ford Explorer 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

After driving the car and turning the car off it will not start right away. Meaning if you wait about 30 minutes it starts right up. All fuel levels are at acceptable level and there are no lights are on the dash board indicating there are any problems. The car turns over, but it seems that it is not receiving any gas. All times the car is parked on level ground.

Welcome to the forum, thanks for the donation. When it refuses to start, any spark at the plugs? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. 30-45 psi. 1 minute after fuel pump shutoff, the pressure should still be within 5 psi of the original reading.

Yes, there are sparks. Just so that I am clear if the pressure is not within 5 psi of the original reading does this mean the fuel pump needs to replaced? Also, would the fuel filter need to be replaced as well?

Thank you.

It just means the pressure is bleeding off somewhere, not necessarily the pump. The fuel filter is a maintenance issue. If you change the fuel filter, make sure there is no pressure on the system before taking anything loose.
