1997 Ford Explorer brakes

Hello,
My brakes won't work but the third brake light does work. I replaced the fuse, bulbs, and the brake switch under the dash. I had new wire put in and it worked for a short time and it went out again. What is causing this problem?

What wire?

Sounds to me like you have a bad turn signal switch. Common problem when third light works but the other oens dont.

It is because the brakes are routed through there for the turn signals.
