1993 Ford Explorer Four Wheel Drive

my explorer slips in and out of four wheel drive, especialy on tight turns. The four wheel drive light does not turn on and the car returns back to two wheel drive after a few moments. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Hi:
Does it still have the oem auto locking hubs on the front? Is there a grinding when it happens in the front? Finally, have you ever checked the 4wd actuator on the transfer case?

Let me know.

Hi:
If you hear the front hubs grinding, they need replaced. The auto hubs may be spent.
