1997 Ford Escort air conditioning

When we turn on the air conditioning the car speed slows down, it's like the car stalls ---what do you think is wrong? Thanks

When you turn the AC on you put an extra load on the engine-The computer has to sense this in order to raise the idle thru the idle air control valve/motor-by meaning of some sort of an idle up solenoid or an AC signal switch to stabilize the idle.
