Driving. Engine quit with no waring lights. Ford dealer says the PCM malfunctioned, burnt 6 coils up and plugs. Repaired it ($2200). Now they say the catalytic conv. Is shot and because it is on the intake manifold Ford is the only place to get them. Now they want an additional $3300 to repair. Does this sound right?

First of all thank you so much for your donation.I can see the cat going bad from what failed before. The cat is in the exhaust manifold though not the intake. Are they saying that both cat manifold's are bad?Or just one if it's just one then which one front left or rear right manifold? Also which state do you live in?

We live in South Carolina. Yes, the exhaust manifold is what I should have said. They are saying both the front and the back cats are bad. The car runs now that they did the $2200 repair on the pcm, 6 coils, and plugs but only on short trips. The car is still 250 miles from us as we broke down on vacation at the beach. We are having it towed home by AAA on Tues. We are thinking of trading. Also, thinking of talking to FMC about some help with the repair. Thank you for your reply and help.

I found both manifold's for the pair 775 with free shipping there aftermarket. The factory one's are 2100 plus tax.If you added in the two o2 sensors that screw into them your looking at another 110 from the same place that has the aftermarket manifold's i sent you the link for.I don't know if they said the o2 sensor's were bad also. The manifold's even come with gasket's that's a great deal compared to factory manifold's.They will work where you live just not in california.Labor to replace both manifold's is 4.3hrs time's there shop labor rate 80-100?I really don't see 3300 there at all i would use the aftermarket manifold's what a saving's there on the part's.

Thank you so much. The Ford dealer told us there weren't any aftermarket cats. Again, thank you!
