how do I know that my fuel pump and filter are bad

Check teh fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a fuel pressure check guage. If its bellow specifications check the filter. If its way low or none at all suspect pump or filter.

If tank has to be banged on for vehicles pump to turn on suspect bad pump.
