The motor runs fine, the bronco drives, but it is stuck in first gear. What could it be? Also the coil has been checked and is okay.

First thing is check fluid level and color. Second, read the trouble codes, if you don't know how let me know and I will post the procedure for you. Report back with fluid condition.

We have changed the transmission fluid and filter. As far as I know it isn't showing a code. Is the linkage that you mentioned the one that shifts from park, to reverse, and drive? Thank you so much for helping me. I am trying to help my son with this. He had been told it could be a module in the transmission, but we just aren't mechanic oriented enough to find it.

If the check engine light is on, you can read the codes yourself, not that hard...Jump the two termnals shown together and turn key to "ON" and count the flashes... a 22 will flash as 2 flashes then a short pause, then 2 flashes, if more than one code is stored, the pause will be longer. The codes will display three times and end with 11 or 111. Write them down and post here. First do this with the key on engine off, then again with it running.
