1987 Ford Bronco V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a 1987 ford bronco with a 302 v8 I am having fuel issues I have replaced fuel pressure regulator ignition coil cap and rotor spark plugs and wires and have replaced fuel filter I have hooked up fuel pumps to swith so ican turn them on manually engine starts up fine when I spray starter fluid into intake I leave fuel pumps on while I start up with started fluid once fluid is gone engine sputters for a second then dies out

Have not had a chance to check fuel pressure bought truck about 15 days ago previous owner says that the pump it putting out about 40 psi but pump sounds like it is straining a bit
