Car starts easy, when you push gas pedal for a normal take off or slow start it will get sluggish stall or cut off then a little problem restarting. When you go take off if you floor the gas pedal it will go does not hesitate, does not get sluggish nor cut off.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Since the vehicle has a carburetor, there are a couple concerns. First, make sure there are no engine vacuum leaks. Here is a link that shows how that is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-an-engine-vacuum-gauge

Next, I need you to make sure the choke butterfly is staying open when the engine is warm. When you press it to the floor, the linkage forces it open, but that won't happen under normal acceleration.

In addition to a carburetor issue, check the vacuum advance to make sure it is working properly. This vehicle has a vacuum operated advance system. Make sure it is advancing under a light load. You can do this with a timing light.

Two other thoughts, does it still have points and condenser? If it does, check the condition of the points to make sure they are in good condition. Then, confirm dwell is correct. It really makes a difference if you set the points by eye or a feeler gauge compared to setting dwell correctly. Dwell on a 6 cylinder should be between 30 and 35 degrees.

Last, with the engine off, confirm the accelerator pump is shooting a small amount of gas into the carburetor's venture when you move the throttle slightly. It may be working at wide open throttle but not at a lower load situation.

Do these things and let me know if you have questions and what you find.

Take care,
Joe

Looks like it was part of problem, looks like a tube metal from carburetor to manifold? Was off, nipple was stripped, brass fitting not holding. Confused, hooked tube up best I could and couldn’t get car to stutter? Bad eye sight stopped me from seeing exactly where tube went to. Any ideas.

Honestly, if you can replace it, that is what I would suggest. Even if you rebuild the old one, there are things that wear internally.

Now, the only thing I can think of that would be a metal tube would be a heat riser. Is there any way you could take a picture of the component and upload it for me to see?

Let me know.
