The cost for repair was $2400 but they covered half since the car only had 52K even though it was out of warranty time-wise.

The Toyota dealership finally agreed to do a short block at no cost me! Thanks again for the great advice. The car run great now and even some seemingly unrelated problems have disappeared. It was a great Christmas Blessing!

2001 Toyota Corolla with about 100,000 miles uses oil. Can't see any obviouse leaks. Had 2 Different mechanics look for leak. Could not find any checked compression and all cyliders were eaual. I need to add oil every couple of hundred miles. What could this be? Would it be wiser to trade it on something else or pay for repairs. I still owe about $3800 on it. Thanks

Hey there
My car, a 1995 Toyota Corolla engine 5A-FE engine is consuming too much oil. Note that not expelling white smoke. Not I find a major leak.

Use 15W40 multigrade oil. I see q traveling approximately 2,000 kilometers the engine has already consumed as 1 liter approx.

Replace your PCV valve. Decarb your intake system. Try those and see if that helps.

Do a leak down test or a wet and dry comp test to see what condition the rings are in, if there is no external leaks it must be going out the exhaust. Any oil burning will show light blue smoke on start up and on deceleration in the early stages of ring wear.

If its not leaking externally-have the engine compression checked-could be valves/rings/cylinder wear-

Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 21000 miles

Fully synthetic oil has been used every year up to now, but I am thinking of changing to semi synthetic, do you think this could be detrimental and would it still last a year doing 3 to 4000 miles

No it should not hurt anything. Change the oil and filter every 3-4K and you will be fine.

This means that the oil will be borne by 1000 kilometers further
But factory recommend that I change my filter every 10000 K.M
Why do I change it to 4000 km
2500 mile= 4000K.M
regards

Toyota recommends an oil change/tire rotation every 5,000 miles. You can do it sooner than that if you wish to around every 3,000 miles.
