I have gotten my vehicle to turn over but will not spark. It has an aftermarket tachometer and it looks like the green wire they used goes to the solenoid which causes the spark for the distributor. Not sure where I am going wrong

Dear Miss Jeep Gal,

Do you have a digital voltmeter?

You can get one at Harbor Freight for about $5 or get one at a auto parts store for maybe up to $20.00.

Very helpful for testing so that we can pin it down and not just sling expensive parts at it, useful later on too!

Did you just install the tachometer?

Unless it is not wired in right, it should have nothing to do with spark.

I have had six CJ-5's and a Willys, still have the last 1977 CJ-5 (Mr. Jeep) and the 1946 Willys (Willy).

I can make you "Jeep" again if you will do the tests and report back with results.

I do have diagrams and pics that may help!

I know what it is like to have a sick Jeep, I am sure yours is probably just a mild cold.

Your turn,

Yep,

The ole tach hooks to the negative side of the coil the other wire grounds (in most cases)

You never mentioned what engine you had?

Do you love your Jeep?

And yes, you are allowed to post a picture of it, we like seeing what we are working on!

It's actually my sister's jeep, recently purchased. Not sure about the motor. Yes, she loves it. I was asking for her and her husband.

She is lucky!

Maybe you will get one too,

I'll consider you lucky too- then!

We do appreciate you coming here for help (even though you sorta figgered it out yourselves!)

Come back anytime for any vehicle.

(especially a Jeep CJ!)

Unfortunately, they are built so well, not many pass thru here.

Y'all be good!
