1994 Dodge Spirit engine surges// start problems

'94 dodge spirit with 107,000 miles. It has trouble starting occasionally. When I try to start it in the morning it does nothing until maybe the third try. I am assuming this may be a dead spot in the starter. The second issue is that it surges while driving when going from a decel to an accel at speeds of 45+.

Hi:
If the starter doesn't work the first three times, you're most likely right. Remove it and have it bench tested at the local parts store.

The surge, however, is another thing. Have you had the computer scanned? If not, go to a nationally recognized parts store, and most likely they'll do it for free. Let me know what the code/s are and we'll go from there. There are too many things that can cause the problem you described, and I want to be sure I'm giving you the best information I can.
