The factory installed two different engines in 2002, for the full-sized 1500 rams. I am tring to determine if my truck has the 16 or 31 tooth crank trigger gear, the VIN for both engines is N. I am replacing the engine and I can't put the wrong one in. Thanks

Hi toms, ... Exactly which part are you referring to? There are only two types of crankshaft position sensors. Older systems used a sensor in the distributor. Newer systems trigger off notches in the flex plate or flywheel. There ARE different notch sequences. All you have to do is use the old flywheel / flex plate with your new engine. I don't know of a way to tell how many notches are in it without separating the engine and transmission so you can look at it.
