Did this happen all at once or was it slipping? Also, is the fluid clean and full? Finally, are you sure the linkage is connected and working properly? Has the check engine light come on?

The trans fluid should be a translucent redish pink. Also, if you look on the dipstick, it will list "cold, warm, hot." The proper way to test it is when the engine is hot (normal operating temp) and on a level surface.

As far as the linkage, secure the vehicle so it can't move. Place it in park and put the parking brake on. Craw under it and locate the linkage that attaches to the transmission. It will be on the driver's side center of the transmission. Have a helper shift through the gears with his foot on the brakes. Make sure the linkage is moving the levers on the transmission.

Check that and let me know what you find.

Joe

No, they are not hard to replace. I believe yours is mounted to the valve body in the transmission.

I believe that is just another name for the same thing. Here is a picture of the part. Check it out and compare what they are showing you.
