Hello
I have a 2002 dodge neon that about a month ago a noise started. On the inside it sounds almost like something beating against the car. You can't really hear it from the outside of the car, you can but you have to listen for it.
It seems to go with the engine speed. It starts as soon as you crank the car and does not stop or slow down after the car has ran for awhile.
When you put the car in reverse it will either stop, or slow a lot.
Also, when you have the car at an idle, you can press down in the motor, or press up from underneath and the knock seems to stop.
I have replace the upper and lower motor mount on the passenger side, but the knock stays (both of those mounts were worn out).
I have looked as best as I can all throughout the engine well to see if anything might be loose and beating gainst something, but I can not find anything.
I have a feeling it may be the transmission mount on the driver's side (but I may wrong).
any ideas on what it could be?
also, if it is the mount on the driver's side, how hard is it to replace?
thank you

I have been dealing with the same issue. It started as a smaller vibration and then within no time advanced to a loud vibration with almost a knocking that is extremely loud from inside the car but almost unheard from outside the car with the hood shut. I am almost done with this week long project. I wish I could tell you that this solved all my problems but I will not no for sure until tonight. I have the other two done right now that you have done and I had the new transmission mount here now. I just wanted to save you some time incase you run across the same problem I did. I have an 02 Dodge Neon SE with an automatic transmission. I tried to order this mount 3 times from 3 different places and they where all wrong. I am not sure if mine was special or what but the Trans mount for mine is a special order part. You can call your local Chrysler dealer with your vin # and they can tell you your part # for your transmission mount. If it is 05274952AA you will have the same problem. They will tell you that it is $114.00 and they are back ordered for 500 orders. I did find a solution by doing some investigative work on ebay. An after market manufacturer named DEA Products makes one with a part # of A5260. If you go on ebay and search with A5260 you should find a couple and it will have a pic for you to compare. If you call Autozone or go to autozone. Com you will find it under the A5260 # and you can get it cheaper through them then if you order on ebay. The closest one to this model is the 00-01 version of the trans mount for a neon but there are differences that would not work so the one you will need is the A5260. Again this is if you have the same issue I did. I can only suggest that you call Chrysler to find out the part # of your trans mount. The job it-self is unfortunately harder then the other two mounts. You will have put a jack under that side of the trany and keep it up to get some of the bolts and lower it to get others out of the mounting bracket for the battery (this bracket also holds the trany mount in place). This is after you take out the main bolt going through the mount. You can access that bolt in your driver side wheel well. There should be a round cap and under that is the bolt. I suggest putting the jack under it before you take out that bolt. I found this out the hard way. I got lucky it got caught by the CV shaft. Tonight I get to put the new one in. Lucky me. I do have a good feeling that this is it though because the other two still felt kind of stiff when I replaced them, but when I got to this one I put a screwdriver in the whole and I could move the center piece against the wall with one finger in any direction up, down, left, or right. I hope that this is helpful to you. I normally do not respond to things like this but I had to save someone from the hell I have had ordering and waiting and reordering and waiting. Good Luck! If I think of it I will update you when I finish.
