1997 Dodge Neon It wont turnover

Hi I was driving my car earlier and it just died. So we pushed it into a parking lot and tried to start it. It wasnt working like it wouldnt turnover The lights and everything where working so I know it wasnt the battery and It def. Had gas cause I had put gas in it like an hour before. Now before this my car has been making a squeeky noise from all this whether. The snow and rain so maybe it could be like a timing belt or even a alternator belt problem making it not turnover. Its a dodge Neon 1997.I was just wondering if you could give me some ideas on what it could also be and if maybe that is right Could you please help Im not good with cars at all
