Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Dodge Neon 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

Hello, I have a 96 dodge Neon, 5speed, sohc, and I found oil in the spark plugs. Also, when I step on the gas, the car knocks, and stutters, and I cannot accelerate like I use to. I was told it was the cat converter, and when I replaced it, it still continued. Then I was told it was because I was driving with only 3 spark plugs instead of 4. But it still continued. Now I'm am hearing it may be my valve cover gasket, or a head gasket, or a bad intake manifold. Can you help me out?

The oil on the spark plugs is coming up past the piston rings and into the combustion chamber. If they were oil fouled, you may be getting a spark knock or "ping" as opposed to an engine mechanical knock.

Does the cylinder head gasket leak oil? Most all of them do at some point. I assume you have been getting your information from a repair facility?
