I have a 1998 dodge neon with a very rough idle.
the car shakes when at an idle but when I start to drive the car runs very smooth, it only runs rough when it is not moving.I have been searching online and I have others with the same problem but there is never a answer to there questions.I have changed the spark plugs and put on new wires and it just seems to make my rough idle a little bit smoother but not much.

Check to see if your egr valve is carbon plugged, also check the distributor cap for carbon fouling also.

You may also want to clean out your throttle body and see if the IAC is good.

I have coil packs and no distributer.I have had a dodge master mech tell me to also check egr, but my boss who is a mech for ford somewhat tested the egr valve with a screw driver and said that it seemed to be working. Now is that a good way to tell if the egr valve is good or not?

I mean their many tricks but I prefer tests with vaccuum's gives a more accurate result.

Also the ports in it could be clogged and you would never know it with a screwdriver.

Also the dpfe may be bad and you should have your mechanic look over it.
