2004 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

my engine is smelling like burnt oil when I stop and now the engnie is knocking. My husband says it is the lifters and addwd oil and the noise stopped. Now today I drove about 5 miles from home and it started knocking like crazy and smells bad. It sounded like a belt squeaking. What it this?

IS this the 2.7 engine?

It had a problem with oil sludge build up that would restrict circulation.

However the belt noise may be a seized pulley or bad tensioner that is burning up the belt.
