I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. The car is about to hit 60,000 miles. Today I experienced two times a possible problem with my transmission. After driving 45 miles on the highway at speeds of 60-65 then coming off the highway to a local road, my transmission down shifted a little hard. While driving the transmission felt like it was in third qear or like "dragging" until I got to a stop light and turned off the engine. Then the transmission begun to operate ok. What could the issue be?

thanks

I have a 2002 with exactly the same problem. I had it scanned for error code and came up with P1776 which seems to be an overdrive transmission problem, something to do with the valve body in the trans with a valve hanging up (not moving correctly).
Does your check engine light come on? If so go to Autozone and ask them to scan it for the trouble code. I'm betting that my problem is varnish on the valves which is making them stick. So I am using a cleaning additive to see if it helps. If you find out anything about what to do please let me know.

Probably the transmission solenoid pack has gone bad. Cost to fix about $500. How do I know.I've just done it!
