Hello I own a 2000 intrepid with 39,000 miles on it and have been having issues with my idle and hard starting. When I first start the car is starts up right away but if I drive it and let it set for 20 or so minutes it will have a hard time starting. The idle is constantly low, when it was running right it use to sit around 800-900 rpms at idle but now when I'm coming to a stop it goes to 600 and below. This problem always happens when I'm slowing down. I've had the cars idle go so low when I was going up a hill and not accelerating that the car died on me today. I've spend $565.00 so far on having the throttle body cleaned and having the crank shaft position sensor changed which did not fix my issues. But after having the throttle body cleaned it did help to stop the car from dieing constanly when coming to a stop, but it still does at times.

Im not sure if the IAC was cleaned but I was told that it was checked and properly working. They checked my fuel pressure and said that was ok. What the mechanic is highly suspecting is that my computer is going to need to be reprogrammed and updated and he gave me a TSP back from 2000 on these vehicles with the 2.7 engine that sometimes they have issues with idle calibration due to the computer and they will have fluctuating idles and hesitation. Not sure if thats it but Im gonna take it into dodge as it seems no one else can fix it :(?

I had dodge update the computer and it did nothing whatsoever. I am so upset at this point. They called me and told me that it is driving well and to pick it up. I could tell it was still running like bad when just driving off there lot. So I called them back and started complaining big time. I expect them to fix this problem especially if I have to pay premium prices for a pos that they made and sold to begin with

The dealership is now saying that it is the EGR Valve and that my car is running rich. They will minus the costs of reprogramming the computer and give me free install but the part is 246 dollars. I sure hope this fixes this issue, I'm so irritated with the fact that they just can't pinpoint the issue from the start. Whats the point of having a computer if it really doesn't make the repair any easier?

The computer on car is a big misconception to the general public. It is not a cure all it's main purpose is to monitor various inputs and control actuators to maintain fuel mix and timing to enhance performance and milage. The GOV. Got involved and mandated conformaty in industry hence OBDII but it is only a tool you still need a trained technician to diagnose the computer only can give a recorded fault not an ecthed in stone what is fault. And MANY problems are never picked up by the computer. Hope this helps explain what technicians are up against. Dealer seems to fair in there offer hopfully they got it right.
