99 dodge intrepid, 170k miles.
symptoms: speedometer stopped working, and on the next turn as I slowed down the car stalled. I put it in park, restarted, and drove away. I realized that the engine was racing, the car was seemi. Ngly stuck in second gear. I drove it towards home and the first couple of times that I slowed down it stalled, after a few miles it allowed me to idle without stalling. It still races and is seemingly stuck in second gear.
any ideas?
i checked the fuses and they seem alright, the transmission fluid is normal as well.

You are in what is called "limp mode." It is a way to get the vehicle home or to a shop when there is a problem. Since the speedo stopped working, I will assume the vehicle speed sensor has gone bad. It will cause both of these problems.

Have it checked and let me know what you find. Also, let me know if the check engine light has come on.
