I'm assuming that you have over a 100K miles on your vehicle?

If so, then no amount of money is worth/cheap enough to spend on replacing your head gasket.

The reason being, if your motor got hot enough to blow a head gasket, combined with the wear and tear a motor with so many miles surely has, it'll be like using a band-aid to stop the bleeding of a gunshot wound. You'll spend several hundred dollars (700+) on a motor that'll probably konk out on you in a couple more thousand miles anyway.

If you shop around, you can find a used motor with say 50,000 miles for only 400-500 bucks and have it installed for an extra 400-500 bucks.

It'll cost you a few more hundred dollars than a head gasket replacement, but it'll run better, last longer and come with a 12 month/12K mile warranty.

So don't bother wasting your hard earned money on something that'll just suck it up and out of the tail pipe. But remember, shop around first for a cheap price, and don't be afraid to tell a mechanic that someone else is offering a cheaper price. With this economy, every mechanic will fight for your business.
