Engine problem
1993 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic high miles

while driving the car, the engine has died a couple of times, I pulled over and after about 1 min it restarts. Now I notice that there is antifreeze coming out when I turn the car off after driving it. It seems to be at the front of the car at the front of the pan. It is a 3.5 liter 24 valve and hasn't given me any problems until now. I need the car to get to and from a new job that is comming up in a couple of weeks. I lost my job before xmas and things have been tight (I would gladly donate when I start working)any helpful advice would be appreciated! Would it hurt the engine to dump a ton of stop leak in it or would it do more harm than good? Could it be something minor like air in it?

Unfortunately, the area that you are describing on this engine sounds like a water pump failure.

The engine dieing is probably a result of the water pump failure. The water pump is driven by the timing belt. If the pump bearing is gone, it may have jumped time.

My '96 with this engine has a history of water pump trouble. I've averaged about 25000 - 30000 miles per pump since it was new.

They are a pain to change as the timing belt must come off to change the pump.

Good luck with the new job!
