when I hit the breaks the pedal goes all the way to the floor before it stops

If the brake fluid is full in the master cylender, and there are no leaks, chances are you need a new master cylender.

The brake fluid in the master cylinder was almost empty. I stuck my finger in the opening and I only touched liquid at the bottom
