1999 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SE 69K MILES
3.8L ENGINE, TRACTION CONT., TOW PKG.
(NO HITCH) VAN STARTED DIEING ON ME
ACTUALLY ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE PURCHASE ABOUT 4 MOS. AGO. FROM A PRIVAT PARTY WHO SAYS THERE WAS NOTHING WRON WITH IT.
VAN WILL FROM A STOP STALL AND DIE OR SOMETIMES "CATCH" AND THEN KEEP GOING FOR
DAYS SOMETIMES WITHOUT STALLING.
I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, FILTER,
ECM - A COMPANY TESTED IT AND SIAD IT WOULDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE VIN # AND REPLACED THE NEW ECM, AND 3 RELAYES ICL.
THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. PCV VALVE AND HOSE.
TWICE I WENT TO THE STORE AND CAME OUT
AFTER THIS AND I WOULD TRY TO
START IT AND IT WOULD START, THEN DIE. I
TOWED TO DEALER WHO ALSO COULDN'T FIND ANY CODES AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T GET IT
TO ACT. I PICKED IT UP AND WITHIN 15 MILES IT
WAS ACTING UP. I WENT TO THE STORE CAME
OUT AND IT STARTED THEN DIED. 4X, THEN I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THE SEC. SYS. WASN'T THE CAUSE AND ACTIVATED AND DEACTIVATED
THE ALARM AND IT STILL WOULD START-RUN-DIE
I DECIDED TO KEEP THE KEY HELD DOWN FOR A
COUPLE OF EXTRA SECONDS AND IT STAYED
RUNNING.
THERE IS A DODGE WEBSITE WHERE MANY OF THIS YEAR IS HAVING THIS STALLING PROBLEM
AND THE LATEST FIX FOR ABOUT 60 % OF THEM
HAS BEEN A BAD SOLDER JOINT AT THE REAR OF
THE INST. CLUSTER. I PULLED THE CLUSTER AND
THE SOLDER JOINTS AS WELL AS THE COMPONENTS LOOK GOOD. I ALSO CHECKED THE CLUSTER FOR CODES AND IT READ 999.
I DID ALSO CHECK THE THROTTLE POS. SENSOR
BECAUSE THE VAN ONLY SEEMS TO STALL RIGHT
AT THE BEGINNING OF THROTTLE TRAVEL. BUT IT WAS WITHIN SPECS AND SHOWED NO ABNORNMALITY.
I ALSO PULLED THE CAM SENSOR AND THERE WAS NO CARDBOARD SPACER AS I'VE SEEN TALKED
ABOUT, CLEANED AND REINSTALLED IT.
ANY IDEAS AS I CAN'T SELL THIS WAY.

I think I answered this question before. ASCD relay and crank sensor goes will have no code and it match ur symptom. To verify it and catch it.U need a scope and a mechanic to set it up for the correct parameter to nail it. Good luck man

On the ASCD relay becuz dodge haven't change the strategy for years. It take a mechanic knows the system. Good wiring diagram. An oscilliscope to catch it when it start to act up.U are dealing with a piece of machine with multiple computers, high fuel pressure, mechanical moving parts. And u are here changing parts to
fix a problem?. Whats wrong with this picture?
Take it to a real shop with real mechanic to fix it. If u are strap on finance then go and make more money.I don't think u wanna learn how to be a doctor and try any medicine in walmart if u are sick huh?

UNFORTUNATELY THE DEALER HAS HAD THE CAR
FOR ABOUT FIVE WEEKS. ONCE FOR ONE AND
FOUR WEEKS FOR THE OTHER FOR THE TUNE
OF $500. THE DEALER ALSO SAYS THEY HAVE
ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO TEST THE COMPUTER.
AFTER REPLACING THE ECM AND THE CRANK SENSOR THE VAN WORKED PERFECTLY FOR
LIKE 20 MILES EACH THEN STARTED ACTING UP.
I HAVE BEEN A DIESEL MECH FOR 25 YRS AND
WAS INVOLVED WITH CAT AND CUMMINS WITH
THEIR COMPUTER ENGINES SO I'M NOT REALLY
A TOTAL GREEN HORN AT THIS STUFF. I AM NOW WONDERING IF THE ECM I GOT WAS BAD BECAUSED OF THE FACT THAT IT RAN GREAT THEN
AFTER A WILE STARTED STALLING. MAYBE THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE PROBLEM AND THE START
RUN DIE WAS CURED BY THE CRANK SENSOR AND
THE STALLNG AFTER TURNING LEFT INTO THE
PARKING LOT IS ANOTHER.?
