1999 Dodge Grand Caravan with 118,000 m i- Periodic loud radio static on the AM band only. Turning rear wiper on and off eliminates the static. Is this indicative of a more serious problem?

I have a 96 Town&country And my FM on my radio had static the AM worked fine. The only thing I can tell you is do like I did go buy a new radio.
