Ran it out of gas multiple times and ended up changing the fuel filter but now at a quarter tank it won't start. Actually, acts like it's empty however I know the gauge is working because during this time, I've driven it below empty. Usually, a couple of gallons will get it started again. Now when I'm driving it doesn't want to stay running. Will shut off on the highway at 70 and now I can't keep it running. Can hear the pump running when I turn on the ignition. Filter changed less than 10,000 miles ago.

Hello,

Just to clarify, if you put in gas does it start and run?

I am wondering if you have a faulty fuel level sensor that is showing different amount that actually in the tank. The resistor panel on the level sensor can malfunction and show incorrect value at the gauge.

Are you getting a check engine light?

Let me know if you are experiencing any other issues or symptoms.
Thank you.
