Engine shuts off

My son drove through water and it started shutting off. Will idle fine but give it gas it sputters and shuts off, with a smell of gas. Fuel pump makes a loud noise that stops after a few seconds.

Good morning.

It definitely sounds like you need to replace the fuel pump. It should never make any noise. Good chance water got in the tank and that has caused the issue.

I would also look into draining the tank and cleaning it out.
